Lee Wai Shan Sandy
As a musician graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts(HKAPA) and Hong Kong Baptist University(HKBU) for Bachelor and Master degree respectively, Lee composes various type of music including Western and Chinese orchestral music, chamber music, electronic music and multimedia. Her major composition teachers include Mr. Clarence Mak, Dr. Lo Hau Man, Mr. Law Wing Fai, Dr. Christopher Coleman and Dr. Christopher Keyes. She awarded the second-runner-up in Woodwind Quintet & Chamber Music Composition Competition 2001-02 by Eastern Winds Ensemble, a scholarship from the Hong Kong Bank for studying Chinese traditional composition with Guo Wen Jing and Tang Jian Ping in BeijingCentral Conservatory of Music, and a scholarship for the composition for the Peninsula Hotel in 2002. One of her Chinese music compositions, ¡§Silver Strands¡¨ was selected to be performed in ¡§Music from the Heart II¡¨ by the HKCO in 2003. In 2004, her orchestral work ¡§Das 30 Tage Fax¡¨ was performed in ¡§Fete de la Musique¡XAcademy Concerto Winners Concert¡¨ and a multi-media work ¡§Labyrinth¡¨ performed at HKAPA. After she participated in the International New Music Festival at Darmstadt, she was commissioned by Creator Of Music Performance Organization to have the chamber ensemble ¡§Snow Flakes¡¨ performed. She is active in promoting contemporary music when she has been the secretary in the group Creator Of Music Performance Organization (COMPO) since 2004. In 2006, her multi-media work ¡§Similar Space¡¨ with video was invited to perform in ¡§Academy Alumni Electronic Music Concert¡¨ at HKAPA, ¡§Musicarama 2006¡¨ by Hong Kong Composers¡¦ Guild and Asian Composers League 2007 at New Zealand to have performance. In August 2007, this work is performed in Sonoimagenes Festival 2007 in Buenos Aires,Argentina.
Lee has been an experienced music educator for 11 years. In recent years, she helps promoting creative music workshops. In 2004, she taught in Young Friends Scheme of the Hong Kong Arts Festival ¡§Creative Music Workshop I&II¡¨. She is now involving in revising, planning and promoting music education of the 2006 new syllabus with a publisher in Hong Kong.In 2006-2007, She teaches HKCEE Centralized Scheme for Music Training by Education and Manpower Bureau and Creative Music Making of musical "Beauty and the Beast" by HK Ballet . In 2007, she taught the Music Creating courses for Music Office.
